Head of Innovation&Storage Department
Rosario Maria Polito is currently Head of Innovation & Storage in Business Development Department at Terna SpA.
He is in charge of the Innovation Plan for the whole Terna Group, following the guidelines of Strategic Plan and promoting Research&Development and Innovation activities in the company. He is also in charge of the deployment of the Terna’s Energy Storage Projects.
He obtained an M.Sc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II in 2009. After gaining work experience in the field of renewables and electric systems designing as a project engineer and concurrently during the first year of Ph.D. School in Power Converter, Electric Machine and Electric Drives, he joined italian TSO Terna as an analyst in the Dispatching and Energy Operation Department, involved in the Italian Energy Market and Ancillary Services Market.
In 2012, he became part of the start-up team that led to the establishment of Terna Plus, a subsidiary of Terna dedicated to new business development, going beyond traditional and regulated activities. He was involved in battery and power converter market analysis, as well as the cost-benefit analysis and models for Energy Storage Systems (ESSs), including the definition of the suitable model for the Italian Regulatory Framework about ESSs projects, modeling and simulating ESS applications and optimized operations in case of connection to the Terna's HV Grid and others.
From 2013 to 2015, he joined Terna Storage, another subsidiary of the Terna Group, whose mission focuses on the realization of the ESSs project approved by the Italian Regulator. He then became the project leader in charge for ESS technologies and system operation, having the responsibility of the Energy Intensive ESS design and commissioning, including factory and site tests and the activation.
