G. Michele Salaris, is an independent consultant in the energy industry since July 2017, when he retired after a long career at Enel where he was Head of Network Technology within e-distribuzione SpA. In this role he was in charge of the development of solutions for the smart distribution systems, including smart metering, grid remote control, protection and communication. He previously coordinated the development of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure of the Telegestore, the smart metering system developed and deployed by e-distribuzione. The Telegestore remotely controls and reads more than 30 million smar tmeters in Italy and is one of the most innovative applications on the energy sector worldwide.
Mr. Salaris is also Chairman of Meters and More AISBL international association since its foundation in 2010. the non-profit association, based in Brussels, has been created by Enel and Ednesa to promote the homonymous open communication protocol for smart meters; the protocol has recently been approved as European standard at CENELEC. Today the association counts more than 40 members worldwide.
Mr Salaris holds a degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Pisa. Before joining Enel in 2001, he worked for more than 20 years in the ICT industry covering different R&D positions both on hardware and software products development, including computer networking, system and network management and high resilience servers.
