The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate decided in 2011 to make changes to the regulation on metering, settlement and coordinated action in sales and invoicing of power grid services to introduce advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) with a final deadline of 1 January 2019. Following this, a number of DSO decided to meet the challenge together to ensure a successful implementation of AMI and cost effective operations of same. By 2014, 29 DSO formed the SORIA programme and the fully owned service provider Validér had been established.

The end of the roll-out process is the beginning of the great challenge: how to get the best value from all the investment done and how to plan the following steps in the grid digitalization. Once the Smart Meter Roll-Out has been mostly completed, and the CORE of the Smart Grid has been built-up, we keep on digitalizing the LV network. Through this digitalization we can provide better grid knowledge and management, optimize the use of the assets (phase balance, feeder mapping..), improve grid reliability (integrating information into the ADMS) and give better service and information to our customers

The presenter will discuss which way of presenting feedback is the most effective for behavioural change in households: visualisation, gamification, norm setting & goal setting. They will also learn what the different effects are from feedback systems like in-home displays, smart thermostats, apps, websites and  reports.

GRDF started the roll-out of its 11 million “Gazpar” smart gas meters in early 2016. The roll-out of Gazpar is on-going in every French region since May 2017. The mass roll-out will last until the end of 2022. 

The first months of the roll-out raised operational stakes GRDF would be pleased to present at the European Utility Week : performance of communication infrastructures, supply chain optimization, management of service providers, customer relationships and Project acceptance.

Network operators need to develop a vision for the future, where they are more connected and intelligent. For SPEN, as for other parties, opportunity lies in capitalizing on the potential of technology implemented to serve not just as a smart meter platform, but as a basis on which to build wider digital capabilities.

Many DSO have executed Smart Metering and Smart Grid Pilot Projects as part of their digital grid transformation vision. But to take a step forward into the roll-out implies critical choices. The Choice of the Smart Meters being interoperable, open and royalty free technology has an important influence in the scope, schedule and cost/benefit of the project. PRIME is the supporting technology in Smart Metering & Smart Grid Roll-Out which is currently reaching the 15 Million Smart Meters Mark.

The practical implications of big data analytics for digital user engagement. Through an empirical approach we will discuss the challenges and barriers that utilities have when promoting massive user engagement based on data analytics, and how to overcome them.

With the second generation smart meters, energy distributors will be able to even better support their customers, get easier administration and ability to read in real time, all leading up to better customer experience and improved efficiency. The awareness of how to utilize these possibilities is however still low within the industry.

This will change the landscape in which utilities will operate in the future.

In this fast-paced world, consumers want to connect anytime, anywhere and on any device. With deregulation accelerating in many parts of the world and customer expectations, once-complacent incumbents and vendors are being forced to face the new reality – their world is changing. So if they want to stay relevant, attract new customers, or even maintain their current customer base, their back office systems must change as well.

Meters and More Association is pleased to announce the availability of the Gateway user device that enables the customer to connect to the Smart Metering system and obtain relevant information to increase his consumption awareness. The Association has come up with specification, prototypes and testing activity, and now makes SW sources available for the Meters and More community

Energy production has shifted heavily from centralised to decentralised. As part of the energy transition, most of the disruption will happen in distribution network and DSOs has to change the way they manage the distribution network. In the traditional world the electricity was delivered through a passive network but when the electricity is generated more locally, it challenges DSOs and other market participants to develop dynamic network management tools including both market products and technical solutions. The key is to collaborate and find the ways to activate customers to balance the weather-related production when required. This challenges the energy sector to put customers in focus and solve the challenge without affecting too much for daily living. One solution is to utilise smart meters as part of the demand response, which could be used to open the demand response market and attract customers be active players also in the energy market.
